During Andrew Jackson's presidency he made little accomplishments he had implemented the theory of rotation in office. Also President Jackson managed to reduce the federal debt to $33,733.05 which was the lowest debt had been since 1791. Jackson was the first one to introduce the spoils system to the national government based on the political support. (The spoil system is friends and supporters of the group in power) . After the election in 1828 is described as the revolution of 1828. It brought power to the first American president not grounded in the Eastern aristocracy.
Jackson had a policy reguarding the American indians he was leading a policy of indian removal. Also President Jackson was also involved in the Nullification Crisis. The Ordinance of Nullification declared Tariff of 1828 and 1832 null and void in the state borders of South Carolina, and thats how the Nullification Crisis started. It passesd by state convention and on November 24, 1832 which led on to December 10, to Andrews proclomation against South Carolina. The proclamation of 1832 was sent a naval flotilla and a threat to send ground troops to enforce the Tariffs. Because of the military threats and congressional revision of the tariff, South Carolina repealed the ordinance.
The protest that led the Ordinance of Nullification happened because of the belief that the tariff of 1828 and 1832 favored the North over the South. This led to an emphisis between the to regions. Another accomplishment that president Jackson accomplished was the assasination attempt. Jackson had ordered the dismissal of Robert B. Randolph from the Navy for embezzlement. During a stopover near Alexandria Randolph appeared and hit the President in the face. Randolph left the scene and the members that were with jackson at that time chased him. Jackson decided not to press charges on Randolph.
January 30, 1835 was the first attempt to kill the President this happened outside of the United States Capitol. When Jackson was leaving a funeral of the South Carolina Represenative, an unemployed housepainter from England aimed a pistol at Jacksons head and misfired. Lawrence had pulled ot a second pistol, which also misfired. Historians believe that because of the humid weather contributed to the double misfiring. After that incident Lawrence was retained and disarmed a legend says that jackson had hit lawrence with his cane. Lawrence told doctors that his reasons for shooting was because he blamed Jackson for losing his job. He had told them that jackson was the clerk of Richard III ( English King ). Lawrence was determined insane and was institutionalized. Fun Fact: They retested the pistol due to curiosity, and the gun tested perfectly. People say that Jackson was protected by the same providence that protected the young nation. Jackson had many intresting and unbelievable accomplishments during his presidency.
